The Lagos State Police Command, has on Tuesday, stormed the premises of the New Afrika Shrine, at Ikeja, to stop an EndSARS meeting from taking place there, Page 36 learnt.
It was gathered that the Security Agents were preventing individuals from going in and out of the premises.
Mobile Policemen mounted strategic locations across the Shrine, while their vans were parked right in front of the relaxation spot.
Recall, that the Lagos Police had threatened to shut down the event centre, if it goes ahead to host a programme to evaluate the achievements, lessons, and tasks, arising from the recent EndSARS protests.
The programme organised by Seun Kuti, a son of late Afrobeat Legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, was scheduled to be held today, Tuesday.
In a letter to the Kuti family and Manager of the African Shrine, the Police warned that the programme is not welcomed, as will be tagged as a sabotage to the restoration of peace in Lagos.
The letter read: “It is on this premise that I write that such a gathering or meeting planned to be hosted at your venue is not welcome at this perilous time when the security of the nation is trying to find her feet to stabilise all threat to life and properties.
“You are hereby warned to suspend such gathering as any infraction that may emerge from this gathering will be tagged a deliberate action to sabotage the transition and restoration of the peace in Lagos State by the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria police Force.”
Despite Seun Kuti stating that he would go ahead with the programme, but at a different venue, the Police still invaded the shrine on Tuesday.
