Tuesday, 5th July, 2022, will forever remain indelible in the minds of well meaning Nigerians.
In quick succession, terrorists groups launched several deadly attacks against the Nigeria State, all within 24-hours.
Were our Security Operatives helpless and hapless? Were they overwhelmed? Was there Security breach to the point that the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari was attacked?
Too many questions begging for answers.
First, a terrorists group attacked the advance convoy of President Buhari, in his home State, Katsina.
The gunmen shot two Officers in the convoy.
Information reaching me is that they are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed Hospital.
Recall, that President Buhari was scheduled to be in Daura, his hometown, in the State, for the Eid-el Kabir festival, billed for the weekend.
The Presidency described the shooting as “sad and unwelcomed”.
Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, said: “The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions, but were repelled by the Military, Police and DSS Personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
Secondly, before Nigerians could recovered from the news of the attack on the President’s advance convoy, another group of terrorists numbering over 300 on motorbikes, killed a Police Area Commander, in Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.
The Spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the killing in a statement issued on Tuesday night.
He said: “At about 11:30hrs, a distress call was received that terrorists numbering over three hundred (300), on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), ambushed ACP Aminu Umar, Area Commander, Dutsinma, and team, while on clearance operation of recalcitrant bandits/terrorists, in Zakka forest, Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
“Consequently, the Area Commander and one other, gallantly lost their lives during a cross-exchange of gunfire.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP, Idrisu Dabban Dauda, on behalf of the Officers and men of the Command, expressed his deep sympathy to the families of the deceased, and prayed to Almighty Allah to repose their souls in Jannatul Firdausi.
The last straw that broke the camel’s back, was the attack on Kuje Prison, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Residents within the vicinity of the Correctional facility, said that they heard sounds of gunshots and explosions going off.
It was gathered that the incident threw the entire Area Council into confusion.
According to sources, the first explosion, a high capacity bomb, went off around 10:25pm. It was followed by a second and third blast, and sporadic gunshots that left the residents scampering for safety.
They were three attacks too many.
