Emerging report reaching Page 36 indicates that one Mr. Lucky Igbinedion, an acclaimed winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election for Orhionmwon East Constituency of the Edo State House of Assembly, has called for the arrest of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the State, Johnson Sinikiem, over alleged forgery of an Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, report.
Igbinedion in a petition addressed to the State Commissioner of Police, accused the REC of corrupt acts of conspiracy, forging of the report and attaching a fake result, and writing the name of one Osamwonyi Atu as the winner of the primary election he never participated in.
The Petitioner said that Atu was allotted votes in the report that REC sent to Abuja, as against the happening during the May 26, 2022, primaries in Abudu, the Headquarters of Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
He appealed to the Police boss to arrest and investigate Sinikiem, for trying to rig the election in favour of Atu in breach of Sections 463, 464 and 465 of the Criminal Code.
He stated that 28 Delegates participated in the poll, in which he garnered 16 votes, Stephen Idehen 4votes, Lucky Ijeh 0, while Atu was absent.
The Petitioner said that he was declared the winner of the election in the presence of all Security Agents, INEC Monitors, and other Stakeholders.
“Surprisingly, at the time, the primary election was held at the All Progressive Congress Secretariat at Abudu, Mr. Osamwonyi Atu was absent.
“In the presence of everyone, the sub Committee even telephoned Osamwonyi Atu to enquire about his whereabouts before the primary election commenced, Osamwonyi Atu only replied that he was around but he never came until the exercise ended.
“At the end of the primary election, the Sub Committee wrote their Report stating the above facts and noting that Osamwonyi Atu was absent.
“Surprisingly, despite the subcommittee’s report, one Ebubeagu Felix in connivance with some top officers of the APC in Edo State wrote a fake result in favour of Osamonyi Atu who was absent from the primary election.
“In order to prop up the fabricated result, the said persons contracted the Resident Electoral Officer in Benin, Edo State Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem who signed a report for Osamwonyi Atu that he won the primary election in which he did not participate neither did he garner any vote.
”To perfect this plan, Dr. Johnson hid the original INEC report from the Electoral Officer for Orhionmwon LGA Mrs. Christie Akpe and sent the one he forged to INEC office in Abuja attaching a result sheet that was forged where they allegedly allotted 14 delegates votes to Osamwonyi Atu, 9 delegate votes to Stephen Idehen and an initial NIL delegates votes and on top, wrote 6 delegates votes for me in a clumsy and untidy manner.
“Sir, the All Progressive Congress Appeal Committee for Edo State House of Assembly Primary Election set up by the National Working Committee of the party has investigated this matter, and invalidated the illegal primary report written for Osamwonyi Atu without any delegate voting for him and recommended that I should be declared the winner of the primary election having polled 16 votes of a total of 20 that voted.
“Sir, for the avoidance of doubt I add the list of delegates for Orhionmwon East constituency and their phone numbers which is the same list in your office for you to investigate and confirm that Mr. Osamwonyi Atu was absent from morning till night at Abudu where the primary election of the APC for Orhionmwon East House of Assembly Election was conducted”, the Petitioner declared.
