ASUU Describes President Buhari’s Federal Government As A ‘Senseless’ Government, Dumps National Industrial Court Order In The Dirty Gutters, Says No Lecturer Will Be Returning To The Classrooms, Declares “This Is A War And We Will Also Deploy All In Our Arsenal To Fight The Insensitive And Deaf Government”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s Federal Government as a senseless government, for thinking its members will hurriedly return back to the classrooms without meeting their demands, Page 36 learnt.

The Union was reacting to the ruling of the National Industrial Court, which on Wednesday, ordered the Lecturers to resume academic activities and end their indefinite strike, with immediate effect.

In a WhatsApp chat with The Punch late on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Obafemi Awolowo University branch of ASUU, Dr. Adeola Egbedokun, described as a waste of time and scarce resources, the idea of using the court to adjudicate on the strike.

Reacting to the court judgement, Dr. Egbedokun said: “Well, the judgement and the resultant reaction from ASUU is an indication that the crisis can only be resolved on the negotiation table. Using the court to adjudicate is to waste time and resources that are scarce.

“Maybe someone should speak sense into the government that this process would lead nowhere. We have been starved for seven months, do you think this jungle justice would deter the members and rush back to class? No. This is a war and we will also deploy all in our arsenal to fight the insensitive and deaf government.”

When asked what the next action of the Union would be, Dr. Egbedokun stated that ASUU would appeal the judgement.

He said: “We are filing an appeal.”
